What Should You Wear Under Leggings?

Whether you call them leggings, yoga pants, stretch pants, tights or whatever, these comfy garments that used to be worn specifically in the gym or at yoga classes only a few decades ago, are now becoming a national obsession.

As people started to wear leggings everywhere from yoga to the coffee bar, for running errands, a question emerged: what should you wear under leggings, anyway? Standard underwear? Some yoga pants thong?

Obviously, wearing black or colorful underwear will show through your leggings, so that’s why you should make them the same color. Nude underwear, on the other hand, blends into your skin tone, effectively making them invisible.

Many avoid underwear that causes visible panty lines and opt for thongs instead. However, it can lead to comfort issues, so that’s why going commando under your leggings is one of the most suitable options (this is for those who prefer to wash their leggings after each yoga class).
Seamless bikini panties in nude color seem to be favorite among the yoga enthusiast because they're comfy without showing any lines . . .

1. Camouflage with a Busier Print

The busier the print of your leggings or any other form-fitting outfit, the better it will camouflage your VPL and hide your panty lines.
Choose moisture-wicking and breathable fabrics that are great at transporting the moisture away from your skin. Even though cotton does breathe, it is more suitable for all-day wear as it may not be able to keep up when you get sweaty.

2. Breathable Thong with Moisture-Wicking Fabric

For freedom of movement wear a thong made from breathable mesh fabric. That’s the best way to avoid panty lines. Exercise can increase irritation from your underwear, so choose smooth fabrics rather than lace and avoid designs that have trim as it can cause irritation and rubbing in your crotch.

3. For More Comfort, Try Boyshorts

The ideal boyshorts go right under the curve of the butt cheek instead of cutting across it; they should feel soft, stretchy, and extra comfortable (just like your leggings). Preferably seamless, and not too tight, but you can also play with a little lace to make the lines less abrupt.

4. Laser-cut Underwear is Ideal

With no panty lines at all, laser cut underwear will look nice and smooth under your leggings. These panties are usually made from super-thin fabrics and moisture-wicking technology. Just note that once your laser-cut panties begin to crease, roll, or fray around the edges, that is a clear sign that you should replace them.

5. Shapewear — The Secret Weapon

We all need a little boost of the confidence from time to time. Shapewear can make the whole workout experience more awesome, and also it’s the best for those moments when you have to go somewhere else before or after your gym session.

Don’t do this very often though, especially if you exercise Pilates or yoga, because those are the moments when you need to be able to breathe freely and your instructor should be able to accurately see if you are doing things right.
