Mandalas are objects of devotion that derive from Buddhist and Hindu cultures. They are used as a form of meditation for the purpose of gaining knowledge that resides within each of us. They can include a variety of round patterns, geometrically arranged around a center point.
The role of these geometric shapes representing different symbols is so strong in some traditions. Take Tibetan Buddhism, for instance. Mandalas are often present as architectural structures and even whole temples may be built as giant mandalas.
Meaning of Mandala
The word mandala is a Sanskrit term that means “circle”. The shapes around the center of ‘the circle’ may vary from square to triangle forms, but the mandala always has a concentric nature.
Mandalas can be defined in two ways: internally as a spiritual journey to cosmic order, and externally as a schematic visual representation symbolizing the universe.
Not only that they symbolize unity and harmony, but mandalas are also observed through the “symbolic palace” in their sacred center. The palace has gates around it (in form of circles), and each of them symbolizes a quality (freedom, pacifying distractions, purity, respect, devotion…) that one must obtain before accessing the palace.
Wholeness of the Self
Look at the mandala of your choice (it should be a design that visually appeals to you). Do you find it hypnotic in a way that makes you feel lighter, while it lets all your chattering thoughts cease, and intuitive thoughts begin?
It is actually a ritual of letting the creative hemisphere of your mind run a little more free during the process, while the analytical mind is having some rest. It’s like meditation! That’s why you should set an intention before starting it.
Once you’ve set your mind on your intention, don’t let it chatter, focus, fall into the mandala. As you get inside of it, your philosophic and spiritual essence envelopes leading to higher consciousness.
Whatever your fashion needs for this season, you’re likely to achieve the ultimate state of enlightenment over these eight ways to wear mandala print.
